Over 136 million tonnes of polyethylene are used every year in the EU to cover agriculture soils (mulch). The waste that is left in the ground represent a serious environmental issue!
Silvex has coordinated a European I&D project with the goal of producing a biodegradable agricultural film that would suit several crops and that could be buried at the end of the cycle. Due to soil microorganisms, this film will be transformed in organic matter, which will provide nutrients to the next crops. Agrobiofilm® mulch is manufactured with organic raw materials (mainly corn starch and vegetable oils) and is another example of Silvex’s commitment towards the circular economy.
